Inclusive Leadership and Cultural Competence
Course Aims:
This course is designed to help people understand unconscious bias and the difference between diversity, inclusion and equity. The aim is to create better working relationships across cultures and ideologies, between different ethnicities and genders, to break down barriers; to create leaders who can take a systemic view on how to improve moral, retention and organisational reputation.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course delegates will be able to:
- Understand the value of equity, diversity and inclusion in any organisation.
- Better manage or mitigate unconscious bias and understand the barriers that prevent us all from creating the ideal workplace.
- Apply techniques and tools and adapt mindsets to create a thriving and psychologically safe workplace, conducive to innovation and teamwork.
- To promote open and considerate discussion about sensitive matters
Duration/Location:
- 1 day/In house training or online training course / 2 x 3 hour consultant facilitated virtual training sessions
Course Contents:
- Set expectations for a practical workshop.
- Explore comfort and stretch zones and learning styles.
- Share personal motivations and challenges. Normalise!
- Circle of Trust energiser to demonstrate Unconscious Bias
- A simple exercise in revealing the biases we all have.
- We explore micro exclusions and micro aggressions.
- Understand types of discrimination and disrespect.
- Inclusive Leaders and Cultural Competency, what does good look like and how does it feel?
- A visceral experience to shift mindsets.
- A practical look at the benefits of cultural competency
- Consequences of lack of inclusion and diversity
- Adapting inclusive behaviours, tools and techniques
- “Thinking Fast and Slow” breaking existing patterns.
- AAA approach to resolutions of conflict/ differences
- Forum Theatre to bring to life techniques and approaches. Exploration of assumptions, stereotypes and biases. A fun and creative way to find solutions that can work.
- Transferring learning back to the workplace
- Key takeaways and what to stop/start/continue!
