Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism Industry

Price competition will buffet arilines but the low fuel prices offer some relief. British Airways may soon stop serving food on its short haul flights to allow it to offer lower headline fares against rivals such as Ryanair.

  • The rapid technological developments over recent years are now embedded in the consumer travel experience. Knowing how and where consumers across the globe do their travel research, engage with travel brands online, book and share their experiences in real time from their mobile device will be critical for success.

  • Mobile technology has already changed the way consumers research, purchase and share their experiences, and will continue to do so.

  • Online platforms use peer review systems to effectively self-regulate quality. Consumers are becoming more comfortable in sourcing trust from these mechanisms.

  • Among the many challenges for the sport and leisure sector is continued pressure on costs as well as improving asset utilisation.

  • Opportunities will exist for the sector to grow on the back of mega events .Driving this will be the continued legacy of the Olympics and Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Rugby Union World Cup in 2015 and World Athletics Championships in 2017.

  • Consumers are also becoming more environmentally conscious and wish to travel with environmentally responsible companies.

  • Leisure time will continue to be important to consumers who generally live in a time-poor society. In addition, changing demographics and an ageing population will provide opportunities for leisure activities aimed at older and retired people.
