University Hospital of North Staffordshire

Based in the heart of North Staffordshire, the UHNS is the main provider of emergency and acute hospital services, and serves the population of half a million people in the Stoke-on-Trent area. The Trust also provides a number of specialist services in the area too.

The Anaesthesia and Surgery team wanted to review how effectively they worked as a team and to identify areas where they could improve in the light of recent budget cuts.

To achieve this, we facilitated a one day event using the Team Management Systems Profiles as a mechanism to measure the inherent strengths and weaknesses of the team.

This enabled the Anaesthesia and Surgery team to gain a deeper insight into how their team worked and the inherent working preferences of each team member.

Using this information, we facilitated a discussion on how the team could work more effectively together to deliver the cost savings and improvements needed.

What was the impact of our work?

  • Greater recognition of the inherent strengths and weaknesses of the team.
  • Improved co-operation and team work between team members.
  • Areas where the Anaesthesia and Surgery Division could make cost savings and improvements.

“Developing People were very professional and well organised. They provided an objective and challenging viewpoint and helped the Anaesthesia and Surgery team to come up with a clear plan on how we could work more effectively together and deliver our challenging cost improvement programme”.
