Transport and Logistics

Transport and Logistics is a very diverse sector that plays a major role in both the UK and global economy. It is estimated that the UK logistics industry alone is worth over £14 billion to the UK economy employing around £2.3 million people.

We have a first rate understanding of the issues facing the transport and logistics industry and we have worked with some of industry’s major players such as First Group plc and Geodis.

Drivers for change in the sector include:

  • Meeting the challenges of reduced demand for transport and logistics services due to the economic slowdown.
  • Poor £/$ exchange rate which has meant that the full savings of reduced oil prices have not been realised by the UK transport and logistics industry. In addition, it is likely that there will be further increases in oil prices in the future.
  • Continued focus on reducing urban congestion. In 2007 the UK Government pledged £10billion to increase rail capacity.
  • Requirements to reduce the sector’s long term impact on climate change and to improve the industry’s environmental performance.

Case Study: First Group plc

We have worked with First Group UK Bus since 2008 to help them radically change the culture and performance of the engineering function.
